Jesus Unfiltered Week 3: Jesus Is The Door Message Summary: Although a sheep pen might have a circumference of dozens, if not hundreds, of feet, the door into it is small and exclusive. Jesus’ image reminds us that he is the exclusive way to find life to the full, and all other options will steal, kill, and destroy us spiritually. ✦ John 10:1-6 — “Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. 2 The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5 But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.” 6 Jesus used this figure of speech, but the Pharisees did not understand what he was telling them. ✦ John 10:7-10 — Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. ✦ Dangerous “doors" distract and destroy . ✦ Colossians 2:8 — Be careful not to let anyone rob you ⌞ of this faith ⌟ through a shallow and misleading philosophy. Such a person follows human traditions and the world’s way of doing things rather than following Christ. ✦ The true Door delivers . ✦ Colossians 1:13-20 (GOD’S WORD Translation) — God has rescued us from the power of darkness and has brought us into the kingdom of his Son, whom he loves. 14 His Son paid the price to free us, which means that our sins are forgiven. 15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 He created all things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible. Whether they are kings or lords, rulers or powers—everything has been created through him and for him. 17 He existed before everything and holds everything together. 18 He is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, the first to come back to life so that he would have first place in everything. 19 God was pleased to have all of himself live in Christ. 20 God was also pleased to bring everything on earth and in heaven back to himself through Christ. He did this by making peace through Christ’s blood sacrificed on the cross. ✦ John 10:10 — “...that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Planting Jesus Roots GATHER — Throughout the service this week (or next week), make a note of every time you were pointed to the salvation and blessings Jesus gives (including in the songs!)
