The Great Commission

 • Series: Reset

Reset Week 2: The Great Commission Message Summary: Every one is searching for a cause and a calling. Thankfully, Christians don't have to wait for a whisper from heaven to discover God’s goal for their life, since Jesus gave his followers a clear and compelling mission—to tell people about God’s love in Christ. This message digs into the Church’s calling and discusses practically ways to share Jesus with others. ✦ Who do you know that doesn’t go? ✦ Matthew 28:16-20 — Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” ✦ Matthew 28:19a — Therefore go and make disciples of all nations ✦ 1 Timothy 2:3-4- — This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. ✦ Romans 10:14,15 — How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” ✦ For ______ to know, you need to go. ✦ Acts 4:20 — As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard. ✦ Because we know, we can’t help but go. ✦ Reset Action Steps - Purpose 1. Invest Luke 15:1,2 — Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. 2 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” 2. Invite John 1:40-42, 44-46 — Philip, like Andrew and Peter, was from the town of Bethsaida. 45 Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” 46 “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked. “Come and see,” said Philip. 3. Go & Tell John 1:40-42 — Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. 41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus Planting Jesus Roots GATHER — Agree/Disagree: Inviting someone to church is the best approach to sharing your faith in Jesus. GROUP — When it came to evangelism, Jesus sent his disciples out in groups of two (Mark 6:7). Why is having spiritual support so important for going and making disciples? (List at least four reasons.) GROW — Learn more about the Great Commission by studying Matthew 28:16-20, Mark 16:15-16, Luke 24:45-49, and Acts 1:8. GIVE — When you give, you help your church to go. While you may not see the results, your generosity opens doors for more gospel opportunities. Thank you for using temporary wealth to make an eternal difference! GO — Who was on your mind during this message? Spend some time in prayer, asking God for wisdom as you “go” and try to “make disciples” for Jesus. Homework: 1 Corinthians 12:12-29
